As a website owner, the impact of your website speed on traffic, conversions and revenue should not be underestimated; research conducted by Akamai found that 47% of people expect a web page to load in less than two seconds, and that 40% of people will abandon a web page if it takes more than three seconds to load.

Many of member already said about wordpress cleanup but you can also optimize your site by using .htaccess file to compress all type of contents.

By compression your site size will be decreased by 50% to 60% which will increase your Wordpress website speed.

In cPanel you can do this by going to "Optimize Website".

If you are using other control panel then look for "optimize" or "compress" word and If not found then use code in .htaccess for compressing content.
